Manor Farm Cottage website

Manor Farm Cottage

I’ve just finished work on a little site for my Mother’s first holiday cottage in Goodmanham. The site features some wonderful photos from Leeds based freelance photographer Rick Harrison, some great copy writing from former colleague Ste Sawyer and a sweet little booking system module from PHP developer Graham Smith. It's built on the ExpressionEngine content management system in HTML5. I nearly always use jQuery for my javascript these days so there's a fair bit of that in use. I've also taken a conscious decision not to support IE6 for now. I think I'll fix that in a while though. I'm also going to be doing a stripped back version for mobiles.

So if you are looking for a great place to stay in the heart of the East Yorkshire Wolds then Manor Farm Cottages are ready to take your bookings now.

No surprises - ExpressionEngine 2.0 has been delayed!

ExpressionEngine logo

EllisLab have annouced that EE 2.0 won't be released for a while. Obviously I'm a bit disappointed, but not surprised in the least. I had a feeling that they were just trying to drum up interest with premature announcements and presentations at SXSW. They have come nowhere near reaching their anticipated launch this summer. I wish they had been a bit more up front with thier plans as I can imagine that many people will have put off upgrading or moving sites to EE while waiting for the new version to come around. I wonder how this delay announcement will go down with the developer community which is usually so loyal?

Waiting for ExpressionEngine 2.0

It's been quite a while now since EllisLab announced they were going to release a whole new version of ExpressionEngine but there is still no official launch date. An announcement on the ExpressionEngine 2.0 preview site stated that it would be released "in the summer of 2008". Well according to the MET Office it's autumn now and we are still waiting...

In the meantime you can find out a bit more about what's in store from EE 2.0 on the seak preview site and check out some screenshots over on Derek Allard's blog.

A long overdue redesign for donkeymagic

It's been a long time coming but here it is at last. The old design had been around for a couple of years and was starting to look a bit tired and dated.

I'd been trying to come up with something that I'd be happy to publish for a while but eventually I've gone with a new version of an old idea. I've also totally redeveloped the backend of the site with ExpressionEngine replacing my own custom built PHP Content Management System that I developed way back in 2002!
